VRO Series CNC Surface Grinder with Vertical Spindle and Rotary Table
HIGHLIGHT
The CNC surface grinder with vertical spindle and rotary table is designed for high-efficiency, high-volume surface grinding.
It uses a vertical spindle with a rotor-type table structure, using rotation in place of the conventional reciprocating motion in order to get a more even contact between the grinding wheel and the workpiece. That layout significantly improves shape accuracy in practical machining and provides a better surface finish consistently.
From mold cavity mating surfaces to large-sized tooling plates, regardless of the part complexity, this equipment offers uniformly finished surfaces with excellent brightness and stable repeatability within short cycles. It is highly suitable for extended continuous operation.

Structure
The whole machine bed is made of superior quality HT300 cast iron, which is processed with resin sand casting and fully annealed. This releases the internal stresses, avoiding deformation and improving the machining consistency of the workpiece.
A three-point adjustment structure between column and the bed allows for the adjustment of the grinding head angle. This provides flexible adaptation to the geometry when machining concave and convex surfaces of disc-shaped workpieces.
In the machine’s precision chain, the most important component is the spindle. Its support includes precision, preloaded, linear guides that enable constant positioning accuracy in high-speed grinding.
The VRO series has a saddle-mounted, round electromagnetic table driven by a variable-frequency-controlled reduction motor for reciprocating motion. Workpieces are mounted via electromagnetic clamping and rotate with the table. Hydrostatic support with a large base area ensures smooth rotation and very high load-carrying capacity.
The VRO series supports multi-wheel combinations or cylindrical grinding wheels and is targeted mainly for high-precision planar machining applications. The grinding head is designed in a more stable structure with micro-feed capability. An integrated dresser can facilitate wheel dressing or scratch removal during operation.
High-precision angular contact bearings ensure grinding head stability during extended operation. The grinding head body moves up and down along the column guideways. Its vertical feed is driven by an AC servo motor through ball screws and a reduction gear to make up precise and controllable micro-cutting.
The grinding wheel spindle is driven by an integrated high-power waterproof motor, thus providing consistent cutting performance even under high-load grinding.
The spindle, rotary table, longitudinal reciprocating motion, and grinding head feed are coordinated by the CNC system.
Its main functions include:
- Assuring concerted movement of all axes along the programmed trajectories.
- Maintaining stability in depth, speed, and feed rate during machining
- Applying compensation mechanisms that reduce the processing error due to thermal drift and variations in the load.
The lubrication system provides guideways, ball screws, and critical transmission components with appropriate lubrication. This decreases friction and wear and ensures consistent motion performance under long equipment operating conditions.
Advantages
The VRO series spindle uses ultra-precision angular contact ball bearings, ensuring high precision, high performance, and high stability.
By offering multi-axis interpolation, such as X, Y, Z axes, for example, the machine grinds reliably complex geometries like contours, steps, bevels, and grooves—operations often difficult or impossible on manual or conventional grinders.
It is particularly suited for machining disc-shaped and plate-shaped parts that require high flatness, parallelism, and surface roughness, ensuring the finished surfaces have superior uniformity and stability.
The VRO series consists of a continuously rotating worktable structure, similar to a stable rotating platform. Compared with the reciprocating worktable, the idle time is greatly reduced; the continuous machining mode greatly improves the cycle efficiency in mass production.
The vertical spindle structure maintains superior axial rigidity under heavy grinding loads. Combined with a high-rigidity bed design, it excels at grinding end faces of circular and rectangular workpieces, delivering exceptional machining stability for large-area, discontinuous surfaces.
The structural nature of the rotary table can easily integrate robotic arms or automatic loading/unloading systems, guaranteeing smooth continuity or flexibility in the automated production line.
Applications
The VRO series provides stable machining for a number of different high-hardness materials, such as refractory bricks, ceramics, quartz, and crystals. These brittle or hard-brittle composite materials need the machine’s vertical spindle structure and a constantly rotating table to manage heat and cut loads better, avoiding chipping and improving end-face flatness.
The series enables large-area end-face grinding for non-metallic material processing, such as granite, quartz stone, and glass, with excellent surface finish and geometric accuracy. It can be applied to processes such as the finishing of the stone slab end-face and the processing of glass substrates.
Typical workpieces machined in the manufacture of automotive and tractor components include carbon steel, alloy steel, and cast iron parts (such as brake components, gear end faces, and structural plates), which, on this equipment, receive high flatness and parallelism. Continuous rotary machining enables batch production and reduces the overall cycle time.
Cast iron or high-strength alloy materials are generally used to make air conditioning compressor cylinders, valve plates, and pump bodies. Machining of such discs and housings on end faces is done to consistent precision by the VRO series with its stable spindle system and hydrostatic rotary table that allows integration into automated production lines.
This equipment provides excellent surface quality even in the machining of high-hardness bearing steel for bearing rings, seat rings, or other kinds of circular steel components. A continuous rotary table offers substantial efficiency advantages in batch end-face grinding.
When machining high-hardness, wear-resistant materials like carbide saw blades, diamond substrates, and grinding wheel bases, the VRO series provides a high removal rate utilizing multi-wheel combinations without compromising end-face consistency to meet the geometric precision requirements of the tool industry.
