What does 5-axis mean in a 5-axis CNC horizontal machining center?
5-axis means 5 degrees of freedom capabilities to move and cut with the horizontal CNC machine tool. In general, 5-axis linkage can be realized in two ways. The most common is the tool moving along X, Y, and Z three axes, and rotating between two axes of the worktable. Another method is that the Y and Z axes are controlled by the tool, while the X axis control and rotation over two rotating axes is done by the table.
What is the difference between a vertical CNC machining center and a horizontal CNC machining center?
Horizontal CNC machining centers have a horizontal spindle, while vertical CNC machining centers have a vertical spindle. Horizontal CNC machining centers are generally used for longer, bigger workpieces, including vehicle parts and airplane engine components. Vertical CNC machining centers are often used to process a smaller range of thinner structural parts, such as electronic components and precision molds.
